Becoming the Healer

Ian’s greatest moment of awakening came on the death of his father in July of 2012. His father came in spirit, as a broken soul, seeking salvation and direction in the light of Ian’s aura. When meditating that evening, Ian found that he had the ability to access the astral planes, called there by his father to help him heal in spirit. From somewhere deep within Ian emerged an innate wisdom borne of many lifetimes serving as a shaman, healer, witch and almost every other permutation of the mystic. After this final and most beautiful gift of awakening from his father, Ian recognized that he had an old and powerful calling to honour in this life.

Prior to this, Ian had already been engaging in distance healing meditations for several years, but didn’t quite realize just how powerful the meditations were. The imagery within wasn’t just a beautiful imaginary world, but a very real and energetic light therapy that helped and comforted the sick and the dying.

Ian was also aware that he could sometimes see the sickness within someone, and diagnose the reason for an illness. This medical intuition manifested for him when dealing with both people and animals, even at times of peak crisis. It is as if he channels knowledge from somewhere else.

Little by little, more and more healing skills emerged. He attributes much of this to his meditation practice that he began in earnest in 1996 on an extended visit to Thailand. His adventures in shamanic journeying that same year also contributed greatly. Over the years he was offered more insights into a psychic world that initially mystified him; he is the first to admit that the work he does seems extraordinary and is sometimes hard to explain, not least because Ian has science degrees from both Cambridge University in England and the University of Alberta in Canada. Needless to say, he was initially held back by skepticism and self-doubt, but these feelings no longer hold any sway.  

It was during a meditation in 2012, soon after his father’s death, that Ian received an instruction to go to Arizona. Following the leads, he found himself on an enlightening journey to Sedona, where he signed up for an experience with Sedona Soul Adventures. It was during this adventure that he was made light of the vast extent of his history as a mystic. For many lifetimes Ian had tried to practise his truth as a healer, but because of repeated (and often tragic) rejection by society, he had willingly blocked his ability to see. Working with various healers in Sedona, the blocks were removed, allowing spirit to work with Ian and help unfold his practice as it is today.

It was in Sedona that Ian also learned about the great awakening of new age healers currently happening all around the world. These are multi-modality healers who do not practise one specific and traditional form of healing, but potentially a whole host, as demanded by the situation. For Ian, this means doing many of the regular tasks of a shaman and employing some of the traditional tools, as well as working with newer tools granted to us in this realm such as the violet flame. Floral essences, crystals, resins, sound and many other tools may be called upon depending on the situation.

For almost a year Ian struggled with what to call himself. Somehow “new-age-shaman-healer-medium-psychic-lightworker-type dude” didn’t quite cut it. It was actually during a meditation that Ian received his title from spirit: Soul Doctor. This is an all-encompassing title that reflects the many aspects of his soul and light work. When wondering about how to train to perform in this new world of healing, his most respected spiritual mentor, Margo Bereska, a clairvoyant medium and energy surgeon, offered, “Why train to be a medium when you’ve already been working as a medium?” Calling on many lifetimes of practise, Ian has the wisdom and intuition to perform acts of healing already. And now, in this day and new age, he can safely practise his soul’s prime directive as a Soul Doctor without fear of persecution.
